Some futuristic environment. This was a kind of an experiment, I tried another technique. I had no idea what to paint at first and then started out with shapes.

Usually I already have a quite clear idea before I start and sketch something first. Even though it was pretty clear that I wanted to paint some environment and these weird shapes looked like buildings already, I had my problems to continue (after the steps - WIP’s - posted above). Needed a day to think about it and trying around before I finished it today :p Most problematic was to “filter” the shapes that are useful from the “dirt” and it took me a little to bring in the perspective afterwards and not before starting to paint.
Here’s a short description of what I did step by step
Insert random shapes to the canvas (and I desaturated them to grayscale). Basically I took some photos from things with appealing shapes and turned them around, cropped them, stretched them or whatever I wanted and bashed them together.
Then I used the levels tool in photoshop to turn everything into black and white only (=monochrome).
After that (and after a lot of experimenting) blocked basic colors in
Threw in textures
…and finally knew what it should look like in the end. changed the colors to a more satuated red, made the sky blue, added windows and all other little details
Last step was fine tuning on the values and I also added the birds
Hope this was a little bit interesting or even helpful to someone :)

Not sure how to continue and in wich direction I should head, it’s an experiment…

I googled for ugly fishes and then sketched some :) Ok one isn’t exactly a fish, a seapig or something. google it, its much uglier on a photo ;)

A canal… am I done with it or…? Took me quite long and I did several improvements on details here and there so I am not sure anymore^^;

Couldn’t get done today, so here’s a little crop of my work in progress. I don’t have any more to show at the moment :p Takes me quite long this one!

Some thumbnail sketches for the next painting. Don’t know what exactly it’ll become yet but I am collecting ideas. I used photos from trips I did as inspiration, but planning to end up with something different. No holiday-photo-study or something. Just gathering ideas…

Another study kind of thing with photo reference. This is Kyoto this time and I started painting it yesterday and nearly didn’t finish it today. It’s usually not good if I leave a work laying around for a while. Like if only one day passes I already have other things in mind, thinking “nah, not in the mood for that pic anymore…” and start something new.But this time I uploaded a work in progress to Instagram before wich gave me the feeling that I need to continue, just because some people already saw that WIP. Maybe that’s a good tactic to trick myself and push myself to continue the paintings and drawings I’ve started already.
Well next time I don’t wanna do another study I think…something else…something from my imagination…we’ll see. Mood might change though…you never know with me.

I’m on Blogspot

You can find me on Google’s blogging service now. It is just a little experiment for now, there’s something I want to try out. And I WILL NOT delete my blog at tumblr, that’s for sure. Just thinking about a secondary blog (or actually it would be the third already). But it depends on…if what I wanna try doesn’t work out and nobody visits that blog ever and/or I don’t like it, I won’t keep it up running. I’ll test it for about 1 month at least and then decide. Once again I WILL KEEP MY TUMBLR anyway and as always, nothing changes here.

Painted this today, it’s the Miyajima Temple in Hiroshima. Took a photo of it (ok I have more than 1 xD) and used it as a reference. My painting looks a bit different (accidently) and there were no seagulls on the photos but I wanted seagulls!

Did this as a practice this morning, took me about 2 hours… btw I am actually not a fan of this character but his face was so attracting…Just because “Under the dome” season 2 starts in Germany today I wanted to draw something someone out of it. As dump as she recently acted I still like Linda though ;)
